Accounting Issue Advertising Help

Ad Type

In general your ad is going to fall into one of two categories.

  1. Product or Service Ads (Create Advertisement)
  2. Job Ads (Create Job Advertisement)

Before proceeding to place an ad, you should be clear as to which category your ad falls into.  Simply stated, if you are advertising a job vacancy it should be placed on the Jobs Ads board/s, and products and services should be advertised on page specific (U.R.L.) slots.

PRODUCT / SERVICE ADS

Required URL (Page Specific Placement)

When choosing to place an ad, you will first be asked to select the specific URL where you ad is to be displayed.  The URL is technically known as the "Uniform Resource Locator", but in layman's terms, this simply means the website page address, or the string of characters at the top of your web browser window that appears to change as you move around the website.

For example http://www.accountingissue.info/index.html is the URL for our home page.  For selection of a specific URL, you only really need to know the part of the URL appearing just prior to .html.  So in this example it would be ‘index’.

Note: To advertise on the home page, you should ALWAYS select 'index'.  Although, this is not always the URL address displayed on entering the site initially, this is always the page loaded.

To advertise on the Accounting Glossary page where the URL is http://www.accountingissue.info/accounting-glossary.html you should just simply select 'accounting-glossary'.  For your convenience, these are sorted alphabetically within the selection drop down list box.

Choosing the most appropriate URL to place your ad, is going to be paramount in determining the ultimate success or failure of your ad, and this is down to a number of factors such as:

  • Common Sense – For example a company wishing to market accounting software would most likely place their ad on the 'software' page or a more qualified page if it existed for the brand they were wishing to promote.
  • Experience
  • Experimentation – Many businesses run parallel ad campaigns, seeing which is the most successful.  We will be covering some aspects of marketing on the site at a later stage.
  • Availability of ad slots – These are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Price – Available on application.

Ad Placement

There are a total of twelve ad slots available on each page eight down the right hand side and four at the base.

  • Slots 1 thru 4 occupy the top right hand box headed up 'Accounting Information & Services'.  Slot 1 is at the very top and 4 at the bottom of the box.
  • Slots 5 thru 8 occupy the right hand box just below the one above, headed up 'More Accounting Links'.  Slot 5 is at the top and 8 at the bottom of the box.
  • Slots 9 thru 12 occupy the slots at the base of each page, and are arranged in a horizontal manner, where slot 9 is on the left hand side and slot 12 at the right.

You should choose the slot that is most compatible with your ad type, taking into account the ilk of existing ads on the page.

Ad Duration

There are currently three options available to choose from:

  • Yearly
  • Monthly
  • Weekly

It is quite likely that other durations will be made available in Phase II.  Please select the duration that is most suited to your needs and budget.

Please note: Ads can be activated / deactivated at will for FREE, at anytime by yourself for the duration of your ad period.  The ad title, text, and destination URL (see below) can be updated while the current date is still not greater than the ad end (expiry) date.  In essence, what you are buying is advertising space not a fixed ad, what you do with the space is at your discretion, subject to our terms of use; no one else can use the space, even when your ad is deactivated.

Ad Start & End Date

In order to prevent wasted space, once your ad URL and ad slot have been selected, the site allocates the next available date as the start date.  This could be the current date if the ad slot is available right now; alternatively it will be the day after the current ad expires.  In the event the ad slot is not available straight away, the website will highlight this fact allowing you to page back and pick another slot if required.

The end date (ad expiry date) is calculated from the ad start date, taking into account the ad duration selected.  cf. Job Ad Start & End Date

Total Charge

This is the all inclusive bottom line price for your ad.  No extra charges apply.

Note: As part of our customer loyalty programme, clients placing several ads simultaneously and those whom offer us repeat business, year-after-year are going to receive preferential rates on future occasions.

Ad Title

This is most important aspect of your ad in capturing a potential customers attention.  You may enter up to 60 characters for ad slots 1 thru 8, and 32 for slots 9 thru 12.  A space is also a character.

Clients wishing to receive local/regional traffic only, for the time being are advised to qualify in their ad title, their geographical location.  For example, 'London Based Accountant…'  However, please remember, with our ad programme it is not going to cost you anymore if someone clicks your ad, regardless of a conversion into a customer or not - except loss of some potential business of course!

Note: The website automatically formats the title into mixed case, where the first character of each word will be in capitals, and the rest being lower case.

Ad Text

This should describe your business or product.  You may enter up to 120 characters.

Display URL

This is purely 'cosmetic' and has NO bearing on where your traffic is directed.  For example, for Accounting Issue, we would generally just use 'www.accountingissue.info'.

This field, for aesthetic reasons, is always converted to lower case.  You may enter up to 60 characters for ad slots 1 thru 8, and 32 for slots 9 thru 12.  A space is also a character.

Actual (Destination) URL

Very, Very, Very Important!

We cannot stress enough that you must be accurate with this information.  Get this wrong and your potential site traffic is off into oblivion and you are wasting your money!!

Please note the following points:

  • You must include the complete URL for your targeted webpage
  • URL's are case sensitive - so please ensure that what you enter corresponds EXACTLY to your target URL.  We would suggest a direct copy and paste.
  • Remember you need the http:// or https:// prefix as well as the .html or .htm, or .php extension etc.

For example, for us to direct traffic to this page of our website we would need to enter the following:

http://www.accountingissue.info/accounting-issue-advertising-help.html

See how this corresponds to the address at the top of the web browser.  You are allowed to enter up to 120 characters here.  The example above is only 70.

And finally, once your ad is live, we strongly recommend you visit your ad and check the link, by clicking your own ad.  Remember, this is completely acceptable, and it is not going to cost you a penny more to do so.  Owners of larger sites should probably do this on a regular basis to ensure their destination URL is still current for their site.

If your link does not work, you should login to the Accounting Issue Advertising Administration Area and update this information using the 'Update Advertisement' transaction.  Then try it again!

Ad Status

This facility is completely unique to Accounting Issue.  When your ad has been activated, by either being paid for, or while site is offering free advertising this status can be updated by the advertiser at will completely FREE of charge as and when required.  When your ad is deactivated it will not be displayed, however, since you have paid for the slot, it cannot be used by anyone else.  This status can be changed within seconds via the Update Advertisement transaction.

JOB ADS

Required URL (Job Page Specific Placement)

When choosing to place an ad, you will first be asked to select the specific Job page URL where you ad is to be displayed.

Choosing the most appropriate Job page URL to place your ad, is going to be paramount in determining the ultimate success or failure of your ad, and this is down to factors such as:

  • Common Sense
  • Experience

Unlike the Product / Service ads as described above there is no limit on the number of job ad slots available.   For futher information see - Required URL (Page Specific Placement)

Ad Duration

There are currently two options available to choose from:

  • Monthly
  • Weekly

It is quite likely that other durations will be made available in Phase II.  Please select the duration that is most suited to your needs and budget.

Job Ad Start & End Date

The Job Ad Start Date is slightly different to the Ad Start Date since this will ALWAYS be the date you create the job ad, there is NO dependency on ad slots being currently available.

The end date (ad expiry date) is calculated from the job ad start date, taking into account the job ad duration selected.

Total Charge

This is the all inclusive bottom line price for your job ad.  No extra charges apply.  This will correspond to the rates displayed below:
